weird and random thoughts

–Saugus, Mass., is a place that has very specific memories for me.

McParty and I are proud parents!
Now the waiting begins…

Sea-Monkeys are Fascinating Creatures

Sea-Monkeys may just be the most fascinating creatures of the deep. Today, after properly preparing the tank, McParty and I began incubating the eggs of our future Sea-Monkey friends. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a pet in this house, so this is long overdue. You may think Sea-Monkeys are childish, or something [...]

Sunday Afternoon

Today I saw the Grim Reaper crossing Houston Street. He looked just like you’d expect: he walked with a cane and a tall black hood which trailed down his back. Plus he carried three white shopping bags.
He walked into FedEx Kinkos.

Teenagers are Strange

Last night I was watching some show about high school bullies. Forget kids, teenagers say the darnedest things. Some choice quotes from a kid named Billy (whom everybody hates):
Hobbies: I like watching fights at school.
I’m a gay Nazi that likes to kill retarded kids cats.

Thanks to McParty for pointing me to Sherwood Forlee’s Anti-Theft Sandwich Bag, which, if I brought sandwiches to work, I would totally use.
In other sandwich-related news, I can’t wait to try the Blimpie Special Vegetarian this weekend! Valuable lesson: this off-the-menu ordering trick doesn’t work everywhere. When someone [...]

I went in, didn’t even pick up the [...]

Redheads, Coincidence and Other Freaks of Nature

Last week, I cut out of work early. I wasn’t feeling well and to clear my head, I went for a long walk, ending up in the totally empty Lehmann Maupin on Chrystie Street in the middle of the afternoon.
Standing alone in the dark back room, the Jennifer Steinkamp installation was a nice reminder why [...]

Fall Style Sources

The spring shows have me aching to start dressing like an adult, but I’m broker than a laid-off Lehman Bros. banker. So instead of shopping I’ve got to work with what I got, which I guess is the difference between fashion and style. When I go spend the weekend taking stock of my closet I’m [...]

Culture Clash

Every once in a while you find something on the Web that makes you scratch your head and go hmm, something that sparks a brief obsession, something you usually forget 20 minutes later.
